Are you passionate about protecting Newfoundland and Labrador’s natural spaces and engaging people in meaningful conservation efforts? The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter (CPAWS-NL) is seeking a creative and motivated Community Engagement & Communications Coordinator to join our team for a 15-month term, with the potential for extension.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to use your communication, outreach, and coordination skills to inspire public support for conservation and help deliver innovative, community-driven programs.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Outreach
- Plan, create, and manage content across CPAWS-NL’s social media channels
- Coordinate and distribute monthly e-newsletters
- Maintain and update the CPAWS-NL WordPress website
- Support media relations and develop engaging outreach and promotional materials
- Design graphics, short videos, and visual content to elevate campaign storytelling
Conservation & Program Support
- Assist in planning and delivering conservation projects across the province
- Help coordinate and lead the Puffin and Petrel Patrol program (including volunteer coordination, community liaison, and data collection)
- Support planning and delivery of community events, public education activities and school visits
- Deliver public presentations and workshops as required
- Contribute to reporting, data management, and overall project administration
Team & Leadership Support
- Supervise and support interns, temporary, and seasonal staff, including project oversight and goal setting
- Assist with onboarding of new project staff and volunteers
- Collaborate with team members across CPAWS-NL and the broader CPAWS network
Qualifications
- Experience in communications, public engagement, or digital media
- Strong writing and content creation skills; comfort with basic graphic or video editing is an asset
- Proficiency with WordPress and social media platforms (especially Meta Business Suite)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and as part of a small team
- Knowledge of and/or interest in environmental conservation and community engagement
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers is an asset
- Indigneous experience and/or community connection is considered a strong asset
Bonus Assets
- Familiarity with conservation issues in Newfoundland and Labrador
- Experience working with Engaging Networks or similar advocacy/donor tools
- Comfort with public speaking, visual storytelling or community organizing
Compensation:
$45,000 – $55,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
