The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is a national non-profit organization that has been Canada’s voice for wilderness for over 50 years. At CPAWS-NL, our mission is to promote the systematic establishment of new terrestrial and marine protected areas and to foster effective management of existing protected areas in Newfoundland and Labrador.

CPAWS Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking a highly organized and creative WordPress Website Coordinator to help revamp and manage our digital presence. This role is ideal for someone with strong WordPress experience who can confidently build and maintain a website from the ground up using a pre-selected theme. A background in software engineering or coding is welcome but not required – what matters most is practical experience with WordPress and a passion for accessible, visually engaging websites that support conservation.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Website and Digital Platform Development
- Build, design, and maintain the CPAWS NL website using a provided WordPress theme.
- Ensure the site is functional, accessible, mobile-responsive, and visually appealing.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop user-friendly layouts and navigation to highlight key programs and campaigns.
- Add new features or plug-ins as needed to improve usability and engagement as needed.
Technical Support and Optimization
- Monitor website performance and address bugs or issues promptly.
- Conduct regular updates and backups to maintain security and reliability.
- Use website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to track user behaviour and suggest improvements.
Tool and Feature Innovation
- Recommend and implement digital tools or plug-ins to support education, outreach, or data visualization (e.g., interactive maps, submission forms).
- Stay up to date with best practices in nonprofit web development and WordPress functionality.
Collaboration and Strategy
- Work closely with communications and outreach staff to ensure the website aligns with broader engagement goals.
- Contribute to the development of a digital strategy that supports conservation awareness and community connection.
Key Qualifications
- Strong experience building and managing WordPress websites, especially from a base theme
- Understanding of website best practices, including accessibility, responsive design, and SEO basics
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Familiarity with web analytics tools such as Google Analytics
Assets
- Knowledge of plug-in selection and management, including security and performance tools
- Familiarity with basic HTML, CSS, or other web development languages
- Experience creating visually engaging content using tools like Canva or Adobe Suite
- Understanding of digital strategies for outreach, education, and public engagement
- Interest in conservation, environmental protection, or community development
