Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is a national non-profit charitable conservation group working to protect Canada’s wild ecosystems in parks, ecological and wilderness reserves. Our goal is to preserve the full diversity of habitats and their species. CPAWS has a national office in Ottawa, over 20,000 members and 13 regional chapters. Since our establishment in 1963, CPAWS has helped protect more than 40 million hectares of Canada’s most treasured wild spaces!

Who We Are
Newfoundland and Labrador became a chapter of CPAWS in 2003 and now includes over 100 members and volunteers across the province. CPAWS-NL’s mission is to promote the creation of new terrestrial and marine protected areas and to ensure effective governance of existing parks, reserves, and wilderness areas. We envision a representative system of protected areas that balances ecological, social, and economic values of local communities and acknowledges the vital role of protected spaces in ecosystem planning and governance for present and future generations.
