Write to Decision Makers
A personal letter from a citizen carries a powerful message. Handwritten letters are best, but printed or photocopied letters that are hand-signed are equally as important. A personal letter sent by email is also more powerful than a form letter.
Your letter doesn’t have to be longer than a paragraph. You can also ask for a reply, and most of the time you will receive one.
In your letter you could:
- Commend the current government’s commitment to environment conservation. Congratulate both the Federal and Provincial Government for acknowledging the importance of the Mealy Mountains area, for advancing the vision of protecting the Mealy Mountains for future generations, and for taking an important step forward this by completing the feasibility study for the park.
- Emphasize the importance of ensuring that the park boundary is not reduced below its original size of 21,000 km2. This boundary follows natural ecosystem boundaries and ensures that natural communities and drainage basins are maintained. The boundary also helps to ensure that the park is relatively undisturbed by encroaching development.
- Discuss why the protection of the Mealy Mountains area is important to you. You can bring up any number of factors, such as preserving wilderness and wildlife, protection from climate change effects, or that you would like to travel to the Mealy Mountains and see our unique natural heritage, or if you have been there already, discuss this.
Thank you for taking the time to support the Mealy Mountains!
